9C1 rear end is slightly narrower but will still work especially if you are or are planning to run wider wheels. I switched my SS rear end for a 9C1 rear end about a year ago. I gutted the rear end, had it powder coated, picked up an Eaton posi, moser axles, 373 gears etc.. One of my better mods / upgrades. Have you checked your rear drive shaft carrier bearing? Turn it by hand. Hard. A *normal* one will have some slack. If you can flop the wheel back and forth, then you know something's up in the driveline. If you get under the truck (with jack stand in place) and get someone else to move the wheel, you might be able to isolate where the clunk comes from. Start with the stabilizer bushings. Go after the rear leaf springs. Sometimes this is called "driveline stop clunk" or "bump/clunk upon excelleration" Just annoying, not damaging. Thats is, if this is the same problem. There is teflon grease for yokes also. Blue lube is for NP-246 automatic T-case only

I started hearing a clunk/popping noise from the front end when backing out of the spot and turning the steering wheel LEFT almost at full lock. The noise seemed to be coming from the passenger side, but I can feel the pop through the floor as well. The rear end joint was stuck to the rear diff companion flange with an ungodly force. Until I replaced my outboard rear cvs, they would clunk on loading - not so much unloading.
