The noise is like metal catching/clicking fairly loudly almost at every half turn of the steering wheel in either direction, coming from the front of the car, I think from the drivers side.
Specifically, it "knocks" when I release the brake pedal. I can't confirm this, but I think the sound only comes from the front driver side. The noise doesn't occur when the car is still. In any event, it seems to have fixed itself. To get around this, downshift, and very slowly press on the pedal than quickly ease off so the darn front end doesn't rattle apart. Not the first car with ABS, over 30 years worth, others would just buzz, mostly felt on the pedal, my dealer says, dey all do dis. Tend to agree with them, with mandatory ABS, sure cheapened them up.

Recently I noticed there is some "knocking" sound coming from front part, this only happen when I release the brake pedal and let the car move in slow motion without stepping on the throttle/ hit throttle softly (noticeable when traffic jam or reverse parking). This noise occurs only when the brakes are applied at a slow rate of speed, or when first accelerating. The noise is consistent on smooth surfaces, bumpy POSSIBLE CAUSE High ambient temperatures causes the grease to redistribute to the bottom of the ball joint, causing a stick-slip knocking noise.

Yeah, I know but it shouldnt be making that sound! Not only that, its only making the sound on the Right Front side. They did a brake job that fixed it for 1 month. Then it slowly started again. Now they've said its normal - the carrier for the pads has a space to allow for corrosion, (i think?), and the sound is the pad settling into that potential space when direction is changed. I now have it for the first brake application in forward gear too.
I have a clunk noise when I'm braking at slow speed (like to stop at traffic light or a STOP sign). I have the exact same clunk when I'm turning right... During the weekend, I only drove on short distance and there were no clunk. This morning, I drove to work, so after 20 minutes, when I slowed down to stop...The knock is very pronounced and occurs at slow speeds (10-20 mph) and happens when braking, acclerating and turning both right and left. I owned a beetle prior to this and it did not make this sound so I am hard pressed to believe it's "normal noise". Please let me know and feedback possible so I can get this resolved prior to the warranty expiring.
However this noise is not present at all when driving without braking so I guess this must be some issue with the brakes. Hi all, I need some advice. A month ago I bought a new RAV4 2016. From the first day I noticed that if I press on brakes on very low speed (3-5 km/h) I can hear weird noise. It is like loud rustle, which sometimes ends with soft knock into bottom. Very difficult to tell from which area noise... Specifically, it "knocks" when I release the brake pedal.
